“Developing People is the Most Organic Form of Leadership”

Executive Leadership Coaching

One of our favorite TED talks is by Atul Gawande who talks about the importance of having a coach.

In this talk, Dr. Gawande poses the question, “How do professionals get better at what they do? How do they become great?”

He makes the case that, “Everyone needs a coach.”

It’s not how good you are now. It’s how good you’re gonna be that really matters.
— Dr. Atul Gawande

Dr. Gawande describes a coach as an external set of eyes and ears, someone who provides you with a more accurate picture of your reality.

He says, “They are recognizing the fundamentals; they are breaking your actions down, and helping you build them back up again.”

All people are incapable of seeing their blind spots, and so, it takes someone with an unbiased outside perspective to help you identify your opportunities for growth and improvement. This is true in sports; it is true in medicine; and we believe it is equally true in leadership.

If leaders want to grow and become better leaders, then they need a coach.
